The first session of contract negotiations were held on November 17th and 18th 2009 at Teamster Local 19’s offices in Houston.
The negotiations began with the company giving a detailed presentation of the corporate financial situation based on SEC filings and projections for the coming year. The upcoming flying for UAL was also discussed although the company still had not received details from United as of yet.
When contract proposals were discussed both sides engaged in open and productive analysis of the issues and with a few exchanges of proposal and counter proposals a tentative agreement was reached on Article 4, Seniority.
There was also discussion of Article 5, Filling of Vacancies with proposal and counter proposal exchanged.
Negotiations have been scheduled to resume in early January 2010.

NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE II
The negotiating committee convened on January 11, 2010 at the offices of Local 19, in Houston to prepare for the week’s meetings. Joint meetings were held on January 12th, 13th and 14th. It was a productive week, with a tentative agreement on Article 5, Filling of Vacancies, as well as discussions and some counter proposals from both sides on three other contract articles.
As a result of some of the union’s proposals, the company needs to do some research before it can respond. When they complete this we expect to be able to reach agreement on the other articles that were discussed.
The committee put in a full week and worked diligently, using time away from the joint meetings to be prepared for future sessions. As with the first session there were open and honest discussions as to the needs and concerns of both sides, which helps the process continue at a good pace.
The next session has been scheduled for the beginning of March.

NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE III
Negotiations continued beginning on March 1st, 2010, in Houston, and continued for the week. On Monday the union gave the counter proposal on Article 12. The company gave the union a counter proposal on Article 16, Moving Expenses. As we worked through the week, we went back and forth on Articles 12, 16, 13, and & 7.
Throughout the week there was much discussion on the issues. Both sides are being diligent in their preparation. We are trying to meet the needs of our members, while understanding the company’s concerns, both operational and financial.
When not in direct session with the company the union committee has been working on counter proposals and reviewing our initial proposals, insuring that they reflect the intent of the committee and best interests of the membership.
By the end of the week we were able to reach tentative agreements on Articles 12, Field Trips and 13, Training.
Future dates are scheduled and hopefully we will be able to continue our progress at a good pace.
